People Tree: Fair clothes from bio cotton

People Tree is a british ethical online store which collaborates with seamstresses in developing countries, payingthem fairly and selling their goods on the internet. Young actress of Harry Potter fame, Emma Watson, has signed up for the first celebrity collaboration with People Tree, creating a youthful collection with a classically British vibe.

The collection, along with all other People Tree items, are manufactured under fair conditions in Bangladesh, Nepal and India.

The Fair Trade Fashion Company is a product of the Japanese NGO Global Village, which was founded 1995 in Tokyo by Safia Minney. In 1998 the first flagship store opened its doors in the Japanese capital and in 2001, People Tree came to life. The same year, Safia Minney was selected an ”Outstanding Social Entrepreneur” by the Schwab Foundation and in 2008 the magazine Cosmopolitan awarded her the title ”Most Ethical Retailer”.
